PROJECT

Concert and Event Noise

Make Some Noise. But Not Too Much.

01

The Project

Croke Park is a world-class sporting and events venue in Dublin’s inner city, with a capacity of 82,300 — one of the largest stadiums in Europe. Alongside its packed sporting calendar, the venue hosts major music events each year and operates as a busy corporate entertainment destination.

The stadium sits within a residential area, which presents a continuous operational obligation for the team running large events: deliver an unforgettable experience inside the bowl while protecting the community living next door. Sonitus Systems — a Cognesense brand — was engaged to provide a real-time noise control system that lets the stadium manage noise levels at neighbouring properties as events unfold.

Challenges and Requirements

  • 24/7 real-time monitoring
  • Simple interface for event staff
  • Automated operation
  • Online reporting and audit tools
  • Integrated into stadium systems

Our Partner

Sonitus Systems — a Cognesense brand — provides certified environmental noise monitoring for venues, regulators, and communities worldwide. At Croke Park, the deployment is built around the EM2030 Sound Level Monitor and the Sonitus Cloud platform — putting defensible, real-time noise data into the hands of the people running each event, with a full audit trail behind every decision.

One partner. Every obligation. Legacy meets future.

The Solution

The EM2030 Sound Level Monitor delivers automated measurement and remote upload — every event is captured and reported with no need for Croke Park staff to manage the underlying system.

The management team uses a detailed interface to audit every aspect of an event, evidencing compliance against limit levels and keeping local residents protected. Where readings approach the limit, the automated online analysis system gives event staff a simple, plain-language interface to bring noise back into range — and sends alerts the moment a defined threshold is breached. A display screen in the stadium control room highlights any breach of event noise limits in real time.

Live Control Room Indicators

  • 73.4 dB(A) — 00:55 – 01:10. Green: the display screen for the security office shows a simple indication of noise limit status.
  • 74.6 dB(A) — 01:25 – 01:40. Amber: as the sound level approaches the limit (75 dB), the team receives a prior warning.
  • 75.0 dB(A) — 01:10 – 01:25. Red: at 75 dB(A) or above, the screen turns red to alert the team that action is required.

A live demo of the control room interface is available on request.

System Benefits

  • Real-time noise control
  • Automated measurement and alerts
  • Full audit trail for management
  • Reduced complaints during events
  • Automatic performance checks supported by Sonitus Systems

After two years of quiet summers during the pandemic, the Croke Park team has reopened the doors and is running a full summer concert series — with the confidence that comes from being able to manage stakeholder relations easily, with the right information in front of them at the right moment.
