Rue du Rhône, in the heart of Geneva, is the city’s luxury shopping street — home to the world’s top brands in watches, fashion, jewellery and chocolate. On this street, Italian contractor Sogeco Group is constructing a new luxury boutique for a well-known brand.

Given the sensitivity of the location, Sogeco Group deployed automated continuous noise and dust monitoring across both the demolition and construction phases. In a residential luxury setting, managing environmental impact is not a courtesy — it is an obligation to the community and to the brand.

Environmental Monitoring

Given the sensitive location of the new boutique, protective measures were implemented to safeguard the surrounding area. To preserve the shopping experience around the site and to protect local residents, a combined noise and dust monitor was installed close to the site to monitor emissions in real time.

The equipment delivers continuous, reliable data to the Sonitus Cloud platform. Project managers receive automated email and SMS alerts the moment noise or dust levels exceed agreed limits — or when working-hour and quiet-time conditions are at risk of being breached. Site managers can respond quickly to higher levels and engage with residents and neighbouring shop owners on the environmental impacts of the works.

Sonitus Systems instruments were selected for their compact size and light weight, allowing units to be easily relocated on site as the project progressed. No on-site configuration was needed — the plug-and-play setup made the device a walk in the park for site managers and installation engineers.

The EM2030 is built for situations where reliable measurements are needed with minimum operational effort. Each kit consists of a rugged measurement unit, a weatherproof outdoor microphone, a mounting stand with cable, and a power supply.

DM30 Dustsens

The Dustsens air quality monitor is a fully automated particulate monitor for measuring PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 with MCERTS certification. Using an optical particle counter with a heated inlet, the Dustsens is designed for applications where simple operation and reliability are key.

The DM30 and EM2030 can also be combined into one system — the DM30N Sitesens — saving cost, space, and installation requirements at constrained urban sites.

Project Outcome

Live reporting, online analysis, and real-time alerts allow the construction team to protect people, property, and reputation by managing environmental emissions in real time. This balances the needs of every stakeholder — leading to a more luxurious experience for all concerned.
