PROJECT

Great Yarmouth River Crossing

Monitor the Impact. Protect the Community.

Introduction

The Great Yarmouth bridge

The Project

Great Yarmouth is a seaside resort town in Norfolk, England, 30 km east of Norwich. In 2016, Norfolk County Council made the Third River Crossing an infrastructure priority — easing transition from Gorleston to Great Yarmouth and supporting the town’s key industries.

The crossing links the A47 at Harfrey’s roundabout to the port via South Denes Road, easing congestion and improving journey reliability. Construction began in January 2021; the bridge is projected to be operational by early 2023.

A project of this size, in a residential seaside town, brings one obligation that cannot be left to chance: managing environmental noise and dust. Monitoring commenced in October 2020.

Our Partner

Campbell Associates is a long-time partner and market leader in noise, dust, and vibration monitoring, with over 1,000 systems deployed across the UK.

In 2016, Campbell Associates partnered with Sonitus Systems — a Cognesense brand — to enable better environments for people to live and work. The relationship is built on the EM2030 Sound Level Meter and the Sonitus Cloud platform. In 2020, the DM30 Dustsens was added to the Campbell Associates product line.

One partner. Every obligation. Legacy meets future.

Monitoring Requirements

Monitoring Requirements

Farrans Construction, in joint venture with BAM, installed three EM2030 Sound Level Meters and three DM30 Dustsens monitors to report environmental impact on residential, commercial, and public buildings in the surrounding area. The compact, lightweight equipment was mounted on lamp posts — minimising visual and operational footprint while maximising coverage.

The equipment delivers continuous, reliable data to the Sonitus Cloud platform. Project managers receive automated emails and SMS alerts the moment noise levels exceed agreed limits, with continuous evidence that working hours and quiet times are being adhered to. Site managers can respond quickly to exceedances and engage local authorities with defensible, real-time data.

Testimonial

“Sonitus Systems always delivers reliable, robust, and quality equipment, as well as excellent and quick customer service. Our clients can concentrate on what they are good at and can rest assured that environmental monitoring is covered.”
